Pompeii, a preserved ancient Roman city in Campania, Italy, met a tragic fate when it was destroyed by the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. The eruption buried Pompeii under 4 to 6 meters (13 to 20 feet) of volcanic ash and pumice. As a result, the city offers a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment of its burial. It boasts excavated ruins of streets, public buildings, and luxurious private houses adorned with lavish decorations and artworks.
The organic remains, including wooden objects and human bodies, provide insight into ancient urban planning and daily life. Pompeii remains a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserving its historical significance
